Field files in. Coordinates and reports out.

SurveyTools is free desktop software for surveyors. Adjust a station or a network, solve a road or rail alignment, reduce a digital level line, and edit the GSI or RW5 file.

Station Adjustment for project testxml.adjproj. Station 217 is selected. The Hz Angles tab lists cycle, point, face readings, average, direction, S and R. Each station in the list shows an S value in centesimal seconds.

Station Adjustment horizontal-angle grid: Face I and Face II, the average, the adjusted direction, and the standardized residual R.

Face I and Face II, the average, and the residual R

One setup

Adjust the rounds before they enter the network.

Station Adjustment keeps a whole campaign in one .adjproj file. Import Leica GSI or Captivate LandXML, average the faces and cycles, and read the directions, zenith angles and slope distances.

  • Angles in gon. Residuals in centesimal seconds and millimetres
  • Solve one station, or every station in the project
  • Outlier review with a before-and-after comparison, and undo
  • The same project file opens in Network Adjustment
Network Adjustment sketch of project eisodos.adjproj. Stations run from T171 along a traverse, with red error ellipses. The status line reads sigma0 3.6537, redundancy 168, chi-square FAIL.

Error ellipses on the eisodos traverse. This run failed the chi-square test.

The network

One least-squares solution for the whole figure.

Network Adjustment ties the stations into a 3D, 2D or 1D network and reports coordinates, standard deviations, residuals and error ellipses. A failed chi-square test is printed on the sketch and in the report, so a scaled standard deviation is not read as the a-priori precision. STAR*NET is a trademark of MicroSurvey Software Inc. SurveyTools reads and writes a subset of that .dat format and is not affiliated with MicroSurvey.

  • Import STAR*NET .dat, .iqnet, Excel, or Netsist
  • Pull adjusted stations across from Station Adjustment
  • Check the data, solve, then a robust pass when a residual stands out
  • Text and PDF reports, and a CSV coordinate list
Alignment Solver batch setout for LINE4_Draft_B from chainage 10+000, step 10 m, offset 0. The table lists chainage, X, Y, height and bearing. The tree shows 105 horizontal elements and 75 vertical elements.

Batch setout on LINE4_Draft_B, every 10 m from 10+000

Road and rail

Set out the chainage. Measure a point back.

Alignment Solver holds the horizontal alignment, the vertical profile, superelevation, widening, offsets and cant. Setout turns a chainage and offset into coordinates. Measure does the reverse.

  • Curves, clothoids and vertical curves
  • Greek PSYMO S01, S02 and S03, and LandXML
  • Export to Trimble TGO, Anadelta, TCP-Tunnel, Amberg, NRG/NST and InRoads
  • Rail setout with cant, gauge and CTC / UTC
  • 3D mode for a vertical shaft or a steep incline: chainage follows the axis, and the section is square to it
Free Station calculator. Known points C1 to C5, observations in gon, and a sketch with the solved station ST in red. Results: E 1040, N 1030, Z 112, orientation 30 gon.

Free station ST from five control points. Orientation 30 gon.

Survey calculator

Resection, trig leveling, and the Athens Metro grid.

Free Station solves the instrument position and the circle orientation from angles and distances to known points. You do not type approximate coordinates. Precise trigonometric leveling and the OMA L4 calculator sit in the same list.

  • Angles in gon. Easting is X, northing is Y
  • At least two known points and one observation
  • OMA, EGSA'87 and three different WGS84 frames, named apart
  • KML and Google Maps links only for the real-world WGS84

Each tool opens from the sidebar. Projects and field files stay in folders you can copy.

Monitoring

Deformation and level lines

A special monitoring adjustment for sets of readings, and a geometric leveling adjustment with closure checks.

Leveling

Trimble DiNi to Excel

M5 .DAT files, single-line or dual-line, with a closure tolerance for Precise, Engineering or Rough work.

Field files

GSI, RW5 and CSV

Open a Leica GSI file as a grid, edit a value, and write GSI8, GSI16, Excel or CSV. RW5 and CSV have their own editors.

Coordinates

Helmert, affine, polynomial

Compute a 2D or 3D transformation from points known in both systems, review the residuals, then transform the rest of the file.

GNSS

Static baselines

Plan sessions, solve baselines, and publish the result onward to the network adjustment. The Windows build ships iqrtk.dll.

Drone

DJI PPK and flight logs

Camera positions from a Matrice against a static base, in EGSA87 with an orthometric height, plus a flight log beside the on-board RTK.

Greek grids

HEPOS and EGM2008

HEPOS to EGSA87 with the 7-parameter shift, the 2 km grid and the HEPOS geoid. EGM2008 for Greece is in the data folder.

Point clouds

Sections for TunnelCAD

A section utility for a TunnelCAD survey, and a fixer for a Greek Ktimatologio JSON file.

Reports

PDF, text and Excel

Station and network reports list the settings of the run, so the numbers can be repeated from the report alone.

What's new

Notes through 4 November 2026.

Linux on this page is build 2026.10.15.213, compiled 4 November 2026. Windows is 2026.10.13.212, from 28 October. The manual is release v2026.11.04.

3D alignments

  • 3D mode measures chainage along the axis, so a vertical shaft or a steep incline can be set out. The section is perpendicular to that axis.
  • Section azimuth orients a shaft. Setout and Measure show U / V and R / Theta in place of superelevation and turn.
  • The slope column was shown 100 times too large. The grade is already a percent.

Drone PPK, GNSS on Windows, HEPOS

  • DJI PPK for a Matrice against a static base, with camera positions in EGSA87 and an option to write them into the photo.
  • A flight log next to the on-board RTK, and PDF reports.
  • Static baselines on Windows. A comma-decimal locale no longer misreads the solution file.
  • HEPOS to EGSA87, and EGM2008 for Greece.

Network heights

  • The curvature and refraction term in the zenith equation had the wrong sign. On a 1.5 km tunnel traverse that was up to 11 mm of height.
  • Zenith and distance equations are evaluated in ground space. On two check networks the heights agree to 0.1 mm.
  • The report lists the settings of the run, and says when the chi-square test failed.
Who it is for

The job, not a seat on someone else's software.

Field surveyor

Brings the GSI or the Captivate LandXML in, sees which round is weak, and deactivates it with the before-and-after still on the screen.

Station adjustment
Network engineer

Holds the control fixed, reads the error ellipses, and keeps a PDF that lists every setting of the solve.

Network adjustment
Road and rail

Opens a PSYMO alignment, sets out a chainage and offset, and writes the coordinates for the instrument.
