Reduce a Trimble DiNi file to Excel
Add one or more M5 .DAT files, set the closure class, and write the workbook.
The DiNi converter reads a Trimble DiNi .DAT file in the M5 format and writes an .xlsx workbook. It detects single-line leveling (BF, BFFB) and dual-line leveling (Cholesky or SSDP) from the file. You do not pick the method.
Open it from the sidebar: Conversions > Dini Converter. It opens as a tab in the main window.
Convert
- Click Add and select one or more
.DATfiles. Several files become one workbook, with a set of sheets for each file. - The output path is filled in from the first file. Click Browse to change it.
- Choose the closure tolerance used for a dual-line line.
- Click Convert.
- Click Open File to open the workbook in the spreadsheet program.
Closure class
Distance-based is the default. K is the length in kilometres. The tolerance is:
- Precise — 4√K mm
- Engineering — 8√K mm
- Rough — 12√K mm
Setup-based uses a standard error per setup, σs:
- Precise - DiNi 0.3 — 0.3 mm
- Engineering - DiNi 0.7 — 0.7 mm
- Rough - Standard level — 1.5 mm
- Custom — any σs in millimetres
A single-line file and a dual-line file do not produce the same sheets. The workbook for a dual-line file includes the distance K and the tolerance, so a span that fails the class is visible in the summary.
